“Jai Mata Di. Vaishno Devi Yatra to Resume from September 17 (Wednesday), subject to favourable weather conditions.”
The suspension was imposed due to challenging weather conditions and the need for urgent repairs along the 12-kilometre trekking route from Katra to the Shrine.
Extensive restoration and maintenance works on the trail have now been completed, allowing pilgrims to safely resume the journey.
Pilgrims are required to:
- Carry valid identification proofs.
- Follow designated trekking paths only.
- Use compulsory RFID-based tracking cards for transparency and safety.
- Cooperate fully with on-ground officials and staff for smooth navigation.
The Shrine Board expressed gratitude to devotees for their patience and assured that safety remains the utmost priority while upholding the sacredness of this revered pilgrimage.
Train Services from Delhi to Katra: Current Status
Train connectivity between Delhi and Katra has also seen significant restoration:
- The Vande Bharat Express is operational, running daily from New Delhi with a journey time of approximately 8 hours. It departs at 6:00 AM and is one of the fastest options available.
- Alongside Vande Bharat, several other express trains such as Malwa Express, Swaranjali Express, Uttar Sampark Kranti, and Shri Shakti Express operate on the route.
- Despite the progress, some train services remain short-terminated at Jammu Tawi owing to lingering disruptions. Northern Railways has canceled over 60 train services between Jammu and Katra till late September, but gradual resumption is in progress.
- Pilgrims should verify real-time train availability and running status before planning their journey.
Highway Connectivity to Katra: Restoration Progress
- Road connectivity via the Delhi-Jammu-Katra National Highway (NH-44) faced interruptions because of landslides, especially near the Thard-Jakheni area in Udhampur, which resulted in a complete vehicle standstill.
- As of early September, the highway has been partially reopened with a temporary diversion around the landslide-hit section.
- Restrictions for heavy vehicles and occasional short-term closures persist due to ongoing repair work and weather conditions.
- Full restoration of unrestricted highway traffic is underway, improving access for pilgrims opting to travel by road.
- The highway is the critical arterial route for pilgrims and locals, and authorities remain vigilant in monitoring conditions along this stretch to ensure traveler safety.
