– Heavy rains over the past week led to multiple landslides on the Katra-Ardhkuwari-Himkoti route. – On August 26, 2025, a devastating landslide near Ardhkuwari and Himkoti claimed at least 34 lives and left over a dozen injured, with hundreds of stairs on the pilgrimage track washed away.
– In response to the disaster, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and District administration have completely suspended the Vaishno Devi Yatra. – All Helicopter, Battery car, and other transport services have also been halted for pilgrim safety.
– Rescue teams NDRF & SDRF disaster response forces and local volunteers, are working tirelessly to clear debris, locate missing persons, and provide medical services to the injured.
